Because a computer today without a connection to the Internet is just half-a-computer. Being distracted by the fact that you are now disconnected must be the most natural reaction in the world. I do get distracted by disconnection and other stuff. My greatest distraction is my mind, I constantly wander off. The time I get the most work done are when I have just exercised hard. I am fatigued, but not tired. I hammered down thousands of lines of brilliant code in that mode. You should really watch southpark, where they have no internets. It's the same for me. For a long time, I couldn't program anything at home if I wasn't chatting with someone on AIM. I gradually grew out of that (which started in High School when I was much more prolific, doing the 4-6 chat windows at once thing) but still feel it's legacy. You’re not crazy. It’s the same for me.
